ESL FAQs

  1. How are ESLs set-up?

A dedicated team at DIGI manages your ESL set-up and beyond – from the initial concept through installation, and from then on with in-life support. Our extensive and well-established resources and infrastructure ensure you a seamless experience that won’t disrupt your business.

  1. What software do ESLs use?

We integrate our DIGI ESL system with your EPOS, defining the data fields required for your labels and customising and automating data imports. Multiple data formats are available, e.g. CSV, XML, Web Services.

DIGI ESLs are designed to utilise your existing data and systems (EPOS/ERP) so that they don’t add to your workload, they make your life easier. You don’t need to worry about adding and maintaining data on a new system. The integration ensures accurate, real-time pricing and promotions are taken from your main system. You retain full autonomy over your information, pricing and promotions; DIGI ESLs will only display the information you want displayed. And our automation means it is a fit-and-forget solution, you don’t need to worry about.

  1. Are ESLs secure?

Yes, DIGI ESLs are very secure. The connection is password protected and not connected to the internet. Also, your product and pricing information is only shared one-way. Your EPOS sends the selected data to the tags for them to display and that’s it. Your back-office reports, sales figures and other confidential information are not accessed.

  1. What will happen to my pricing if there is a power outage?

The Radio Frequency (RF) unit is connected via a CAT5 cable, and DIGI ESLs run on batteries with an average lifespan of 7 years. In the event of a power outage, the ESLs will continue to display the information they most recently received prior to the outage and will update again once power returns, so you and your customers will not be left without pricing.

  1. Do DIGI ESLs rely on Wi-Fi?

No, only the handheld device connects via Wi-Fi.

  1. How does the Radio Frequency (RF) communication work?

The RF technology delivers two-way communication with a fast and seamless update rate of five tags per second. It uses proprietary DIGI protocol for 100% price integrity. No additional store server is required.
