Electronic Shelf Label FAQs
How are ESLs set-up?
A dedicated team at DIGI manages your ESL set-up, from the outset through installation, and onto in-life support. Our extensive and well-established resources and infrastructure ensure a seamless experience that won’t disrupt your business. This means that you don’t need to worry about the set-up, but as an overview, it begins with a store survey. We then design a tailored interface and templates, and integrate with your Electronic Point of Sale (EPoS). We install the ESLs and rails to your shelving with no disruption to your customers. Then we deliver thorough training and continued support.
What software do ESLs use?
We integrate our DIGI ESL system with your EPoS, defining the data fields required for your labels and customising and automating data imports. Multiple data formats are available, e.g. CSV, XML, Web Services.
DIGI ESLs are designed to utilise your existing data and systems (EPoS/ERP) so that they don’t add to your workload and only make your life easier. You don’t need to worry about adding and maintaining data on a new system. The integration ensures accurate, real-time pricing and promotions are taken from your main system.
You retain full autonomy over your information, pricing and promotions. DIGI ESLs will only display the information that you want displayed. And our automation means it is a fit-and-forget solution, you don’t need to worry about.
Are ESLs secure?
Yes, DIGI ESLs are very secure. The connection is password protected and not connected to the internet. Also, your product and pricing information is only shared one-way. Your EPoS sends the selected data to the tags for them to display and that’s it. Your back-office reports, sales figures and other confidential information are not accessed.
What will happen to my pricing if there is a power outage?
The Radio Frequency (RF) unit is connected via a CAT5 cable, and DIGI ESLs run on batteries with an average lifespan of 7 years. This means that in the event of a power outage, the ESLs will continue to display the information they most recently received prior to the outage, and they will update again once power returns. Your store will not be left without pricing because of a power cut.
Do DIGI ESLs rely on Wi-Fi?
No, DIGI Electronic Shelf Labels do not rely on Wi-Fi. Only the handheld device, which can be used to update ESLs, connects via Wi-Fi.
How does the Radio Frequency (RF) communication work?
The RF technology delivers two-way communication with a fast and seamless update rate of five ESLs per second. It uses proprietary DIGI protocol for 100% price integrity. No additional store server is required.
